We took a 19 day road trip to Colorado at the end of July, and had a wonderful time visiting Mount Shasta Caverns, hiking at Lassen National Park, and stopping at Lake Tahoe. We drove the loneliest highway in Nevada, and hiked at Great Basin National Park. We did more hiking at Capitol Reef National Park and drove through the Colorado National Monument. We drove the Million Dollar Highway between Ouray and Durango, soaked at Durango Hot Springs, and rode the Durango Steam Train. We went rail biking in South Fork, Colorado, drove the Skyline Drive in Canon City, and hiked around Garden of the Gods in Manitou Springs. We rode the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, crossed Independence pass to Aspen, rode ebikes on the Rio Grande trail to Woody's Tavern, and rode ebikes to Maroon Bells. We hiked the Hanging Lake Trail near Glenwood Springs, and drove the Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park. We did a two hour horse ride with National Park Gateway Stables, and had a blast riding the Mustang Mountain Coaster in Estes Park. We stayed at the Saratoga Hot Springs resort, and hiked to the fascinating Periodic Springs in Ashton, Wyoming. We drove through Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, and watched Old Faithful erupt. We visited the old ghost town at Bannack State Park in Montana, drove highway 12 through the Idaho mountains, and sampled some wines in Walla Walla, Washington before heading home. It was a great trip, even though we skipped a few planned activities due to thunderstorms or wildfires.
